Historically, social values are considered one of the foundations of civilizations and cultures in societies because of their importance in organizing human behavior through specific principles and rules. Like other societies, the Palestinian society has built its own social system that is derived from values, morals and principles to serve as general and controlling standards for human behavior, which is characterized by a relatively high capacity for cohesion and preservation of its essential components and characteristics.

However, the rapid material changes in society will undermine values and disintegrate standards, where individuals sometimes find themselves unable to distinguish between right and wrong. Therefore, these changes negatively affected the structure of social values in the Palestinian society, especially since it is exposed to two main factors, globalization and occupation, which led to the distortion of moral values for those who enjoyed the cohesion of their traditional social fabric.

Due to recent developments in the means of communication, some new values emerged, including: the change in the form of family relations, whether on the material or moral level, and the escalation of dangerous phenomena that have recently escalated, particularly murder crimes.

The increase in violence in Palestine is the result of the overlapping of several factors, the most important of which are: poverty, unemployment, and social upheaval, etc. There are also external influences, especially on youth, including: visual media and electronic games that contain violent scenes. These scenes direct social behaviors and actions towards violence in reality and the social sphere, where individuals re-embody these scenes, which are consumed consciously or unconsciously, thus influencing their daily behavior.

When witnessing the increase in crimes, one notices that there is an increase in violence against women and that the perpetrators are mostly men. The situation in the Palestinian society is complicated, for it must be against violence due to the high rates of education and the decline in the rates of ignorance and illiteracy. However, the figures and statistics convey that the high rates of violence are due to the lack of implementation of laws and punishments.

Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has played a role in the decrease of daily income and the increase in household burdens, psychological pressure on all family members and violence within the family, especially against women, children and the elderly. The justifications for murder will remain a cause for revenge, hatred, control, etc., regardless of the differences in societies, cultures and beliefs. But, is there any justification for deciding another’s fate and ending his/her life?
