the concept of social mobilization and its relationship with communication concepts, methods and tools

The Palestinian Association for Empowerment and Local Development- REFORM implemented 2 training sessions on the concept, tools and mechanisms of social mobilization via the electronic app, ZOOM, with the participation of representatives of civil society organizations and unions from Ramallah and occupied Jerusalem. This training aimed to introduce the young men and women participants to the concept and tools of social mobilization and to build their capabilities in communication, mobilization and influence. It also sought to contribute to promoting gender equality and increasing women’s participation in public life, especially in social and political spheres.

The trainer, Marlyn Al-Radbi, initiated the training by defining the concept of social mobilization and its relationship with communication concepts, methods and tools. She also discussed the conditions for a successful communication process and the obstacles of which that process encounters. Furthermore, Ms. Al-Radbi highlighted the importance of persuasion and influence by introducing the participants to the strategies and tools that are used to mobilize energies, efforts and experiences.

the importance of social mobilization in understanding male and female patterns

During the interactive exercises and activities, the participants focused on the importance of social mobilization in understanding male and female patterns, deconstructing gender stereotypes, and creating a societal impact to overcome the obstacles that contribute to the spread of stereotypes in social roles and family care. Further, the training familiarized the participants with mechanisms on how to implement lobbying and advocacy campaigns in order to contribute to the promotion of gender equality by changing the stereotype towards gender roles.

The young men and women participants also developed proposals and suggestions that contribute to strengthening positive practices and activating the role of civil and trade union institutions in pressing for the approval of paternity leave and including it in executive policies in the administrative manuals of the targeted institutions and unions.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

It is worth noting that the young men and young women participants in this training have positive behaviors and orientations in regards to domestic work, of which they are direct beneficiaries of the “Partners” project.

This project seeks to enhance men’s awareness of positive practices in regards to gender and how men’s identities and relationships with others can be formed on the basis of gender equality. “Partners” also aims to raise the participants’ awareness on the concepts of masculinity and gender as well as the inclusion of public policies, such as paternity leave-in ten civil society organizations and unions- that enable men to spend more time at home doing household chores and caring for their children.

This training comes as part of the “Partners’ project implemented by the Palestinian Association for Empowerment and Local Development—REFORM, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Technical Committee and the NGO Development Center and in partnership with UN Women.
