About Project

The "Contribute to constructive relations between citizens and state in planning processes through the improvement of quality of participation with a specific focus on marginalized groups (women, youth and people with disabilities) in Palestine" project aims to enhance the ability of citizens at the local level to participate in decision-making processes, hold local authorities accountable regarding their performance and services provided to citizens and provide information about their activities, practices, implemented projects and any other information related to the performance of local government units. It further seeks to enhance the principles of good governance, improve services and raise awareness of the local community, members of citizenship committees and members of local bodies on the concepts of civic education, various social accountability concepts and tools, in addition to the importance of participation in the development of planning processes in local bodies.

To increase community participation in the development of planning processes in local bodies

Social participation of citizens

To institutionalize the social participation of citizens, including marginalized groups, in reviewing of SDIPs of the targeted LGUs

Enhance active civil society and citizen participation in local decision-making process

LGU affairs

Increase citizens trust, acceptance and understanding in LGU affairs

Networking and cooperation

To support networking and cooperation among all involved actors in the sector (MDLF, MoLG, National Working Groups, CSO and LGUs)

Outcomes

Social Accountability concepts and tools

Raise the awareness of the local community, members of the social accountability committees and members of local councils on civic education, knowledge of various Social Accountability concepts and tools, as well as technical and analytical skills that will support active citizen engagement and participation in the development planning processes within LGUs

Understanding basic rights

Learn about their basic rights and how to access these rights in order to realize their potential and participate fully and effectively in all aspects of life

Decision-makers and the local community

A platform is provided for the project’s beneficiaries and local community in order to meet directly with decision-makers to share their monitoring report findings and to voice out their needs and concerns on specific issues

Laws and policies in the LGUs

Improve efficiency, transparency and public involvement in projects or laws and policies in the LGUs

“Community Engagement Mobilisers”

Groups of “Community Engagement Mobilisers” in each of the municipalities are formed to monitor decision-makers based on the government’s commitments (through local development plans)

Participation in decision-making processes

Their ability to participate in decision-making processes will be developed, especially those that affect their lives
