Bridges Project

From 14 August 2012 until 15 September 2014

About

Empowering the individual means to empower the nation!

Bridges aimed at creating a bottom-up social change process by establishing relationships between and within young generation. For this reason, Bridges enhanced the participation of grassroots organizations and marginalized groups in the regulatory processes. Bridges also enhanced their role in structural and cultural reform.

Furthermore, Bridges established dialogue processes between different actors and stakeholders to foster social and community developmental processes.

These processes also increased the political participation of the targeted groups. In addition, Bridges aimed to develop the young leaders’ abilities and create a new set of values based on the concept of Basic Human Needs and Human Rights within the Palestinian society.

Outcomes

N

Four capacity building workshops “Mechanisms to Foster Youth Cultural and Political Participation” have been implemented. These workshops have targeted 100 youth from the targeted areas – Hebron, Bethlehem, Jericho, Ramallah and Nablus. The workshops have aimed at developing the capacity of youth to participate in regulatory processes, leading to an inclusive and responsive political system. The workshops also have worked to facilitate the marginalized groups’ access, particularly women and youth, to the various levels of decision making.

N

Throughout Bridges, a number of house meetings have been conducted. These meetings have promoted social coherence and communication between the various community components. Moreover, within these visits, safe spaces have been created to introduce the participants to the daily living conditions at the targeted areas.

N

Dialogue sessions have been implemented at the targeted areas. These sessions have enabled the participants to interact with the surrounding community and to rethink the existing social systems. In additions, participants have been also enabled to restore community harmony.

N

A number of public meetings have been carried out to establish communication channels between the public in the targeted areas and decision makers. Through these meetings, Bridges has facilitated discussions on the developmental processes in the Palestinian community regarding the needs of marginalized areas.  These meetings highlighted the dialectical relation between the refugee’s issue and the rights associated with it.

N

Voluntary days have been carried out by Bridges groups in the less fortunate areas. These activities have shed light on the living conditions within these areas.

N

A new supporting “Learning-by-Doing” Process has been supported by Bridges Groups. Through this process, participants have been enabled to learn from their life experiences after conceptualizing them into successful historical events that became model for social change.

We are committed to inspiring and compelling social change!
