From October 2017 until October 2018

About

We need to encourage young women to become leaders in their own communities.

The “Active Men for Women Leaders” Project – AMWL worked to enable men in the targeted areas to take leading roles in transcending socio-political exclusion patterns. These patterns were related to the assumed role of women.

Afterwards, the target groups were able to turn these patterns into public policies that foster women’s active engagement in regulatory processes.

The “Active Men for Women Leaders”, which seeks to promote gender equality, is implemented by REFORM, in partnership with the NGOs Development Center- NDC, Women’s Technical Affairs Committee (WATC) and UN Women.

The “Active Men for Women Leaders” Project is funded by the Swedish Development Agency under the “Men and Women for Equality” Program. This Program is a three-year regional program implemented by UN-Women in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in four Arab countries- Palestine, Morocco, Egypt and Lebanon.

This Program aims to address the root causes of gender inequality and develop community solutions to engage males in promoting gender equality.

Objectives

E

Involve ...

… the target groups in analysis of deep culture and structure as well as in social transformation training workshops. In fact, these cultural norms and structures hinder women from being actively involved in the regulatory processes.

E

Form ...

… new male groups of gender defenders from the targeted areas. These groups include men from local councils in the Municipalities of Hizma and Biddu as well as other youth activists.

E

Promote ...

… self-empowerment of men by engaging them in awareness-raising workshops. These workshops encourage them to formulate codes of conduct within councils. These codes of conduct state the full acceptance of men towards the untraditional role of women.

E

Engage ...

… the target groups in leading social and political mobilization processes. These processes aim at creating women leaders in the socio-political spheres.

E

Engage ...

… the target groups in public speaking, communication, facilitation and negotiation skills trainings. These trainings aim to enable the target groups to initiate advocacy campaigns in order to support women in decision-making positions in local councils.

E

Improve ...

… women’s partnership and participation in political and social life.
