Success Story of Asma’a Daher – EORE Practitioner in Khan Younis, Gaza Strip
My role as a EORE practitioner, as part of the 'Provision of Life-saving Assistance in Gaza through Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE)' project, implemented by REFORM Association in partnership with the Danish Refugee Council, significantly raised awareness among many displaced women and men about the dangers of approaching war remnants. I emphasized the importance of keeping children away from these dangers and opened the eyes of mothers to intensify their protection efforts. We warned everyone against touching any suspicious objects, as they may contain unexploded ordnance, and advise caution when walking in suspicious areas.
As part of my activity plan, I visited areas heavily bombed, approaching them with anxiety but also with the conviction that, despite severe situations and circumstances, my determination and knowledge could help educate people about the dangers surrounding them. I strive to raise awareness and ensure they understand the threats that can arise from every corner.
Upon arriving at the location, I introduced the activities and warned the mothers. It was never easy to focus while we were under heavy bombardment around us, but I remained committed to our mission.
After I finished and left the area, it was bombed. Thankfully, I had gone and shared the information I had, as I later met one of the mothers who told me how a rocket had fallen but didn't explode. The women began shouting for everyone to remember what they had learned in the session. They acted quickly, moving away until the authorities could address the ordnance. Thankfully, no one was harmed.”
