REFORM implements a book discussion on: “Men from Mars and Women from Venus” with the participation of community activists at the Palestinian Child Center in Al-Amari Refugee Camp.
Men and Women: Differences and Similarities
The Palestinian Association for Empowerment and Local Development— REFORM implemented a cultural session to discuss the book entitled: “Men from Mars and Women from Venus” written by Joan Gray. This book identifies the relationship between men and women, the innate difference between them, and the problems that occur because of their differences. This session took place in the Palestinian Child Center in Al-Amari Refugee Camp, Ramallah with the participation of community activists.
The session initiated with an introduction of the author and psychiatrist, John Gray, and then proceeded to the presentation and discussion of the book’s main ideas. This included a summary of the nature of differences been men and women regarding behaviors towards different situations. The author claimed that the success of the relation between men and women depends on how well each of them is aware of the other’s personality.
After opening the floor for discussion, the participants stressed the importance of accepting that difference between humans is natural and crucial for the evolvement of thoughts, ideas, and beliefs. Tolerance guarantees the promotion of a collective identity amongst the various Palestinian cultures.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
This session comes as part of the “Access Beyond Barriers” project which aims to enhance the social participation of marginalised groups in order to formulate public policies that are responsive to youth and women’s needs. The project also aims to enhance cooperation between youth groups and CBOs in Area C and in Palestinian refugee camps and to develop the internal procedures and practices of these associations in order to ensure good governance practices. Thus, social and cultural cohesion will be increased amongst the different social components and collective Palestinian identity will be promoted.
