REFORM implements the Youth Camp “Under the Same Sun”

Ramallah – 09/05/2018 – in a delightful and interactive atmosphere, the Palestinian Association for Empowerment and Local Development - REFORM implemented the youth summer camp “Under the Same Sun” in Kufor Naama village, west of Ramallah. 50 youth activists from various cities within the West Bank participated in this camp, which aimed at bridging the gaps among different components, promoting social cohesion within Palestinian society, engaging participants within public life spheres,  as well as enabling them of accepting  differences among individuals and groups as an added value that promotes cultural diversity.
Several social, cultural, recreational and voluntary activities were conducted throughout the camp to build and enhance the social analytical and communication skills of participants, in addition to other skills that support them in their professional and academic paths. These activities included live action role playing games, cultural evenings, ice breaking activities through which, participants exchanged their life experiences and appreciated the differences among them.

REFORM implemented this camp in participation with many volunteers from its previous projects, to develop their presentation and event management skills and provide them with interactive platforms that allow them to transfer their experiences over the past years to their new counterparts in the camp.

At the end of the camp, participants recommended that REFORM establishes networking channels to maintain effective communication with participants and provide them with opportunities to implement other activities in future camps to expand their target areas and groups within the local community, which contributes to strengthening the social fabric between different components within Palestinian society.

Moreover, participants asserted the importance of the new skills they acquired from several activities held at the camp, such as those that are related to time management and listening to other voices that do not necessarily represent their own voices.

This Camp is part of the Innovation Hub -Sociocultural Platform, which seeks to contribute to bridging the gaps between various community components on both social and economic levels; 1) providing a safe and interactive platform to enable all members of different groups of society to participate in decision making processes, especially youth and women; 2) to improve their living conditions by developing untraditional production patterns, enhancing cooperation and partnership between targets groups, and increasing social responsibility of the private sector.

This project is implemented by REFORM with the support of the Facilitating Social Participation of Palestinian Refugees (FASPAR). The FASPAR project was established by the German Government and is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
