REFORM Implements a Who is Behind Me Activity to discuss social norms governing stereotypes and assumptions
The Palestinian Association for Empowerment and Local Development- REFORM implemented an interactive activity with the participation of a number of youth activists at the Good Shepperd Youth Cultural Center which is part of the Youth Development Resource Center in Jericho. The activity aimed at exploring social stereotypes related to the assumed role of youth through identifying the social norms governing hem, in order to compare them with inner subconscious assumptions.
REFORM, through this meeting, seeks to establish safe spaces for youth to discuss several social issues in order to contribute to breaking social barriers that hinder them from participating effectively within society, and to raise their awareness on the importance of dialogue as a tool for realizing their role in the social developmental processes.
The participant Nagham Salameh shared her experience stating: “This is the first time that I participate in such an activity, and it allowed me to get introduced to different opinions, and to be aware of the differences of opinions on social issues amongst youth. Differences are fundamental to existence, and we should accept what is different and respect it, in order to ensure diversity within our society”.
This activity is part of the Innovation Hub – Sociocultural Platform which seeks to contribute to bridging the gaps between the various community components on both social and economic levels; providing a safe and interactive platform to enable all members of different groups of society to participate in decision making processes, especially youth and women; and to improve their living conditions by developing untraditional production patterns, enhancing cooperation and partnership between targets groups, and increasing social responsibility of the private sector.
This project is implemented by REFORM with the support of the Facilitating Social Participation of Palestinian Refugees (FASPAR). The FASPAR project was established by the German Government and is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
