When I was selected as a Conflict Preparedness and Protection Practitioner with REFORM Association within the Palestine Early Emergency Response II project, I was thrilled and eager to head out into the field. Initially, I faced challenges due to internet outages, which disrupted my ability to attend online training sessions without interruptions. However, the project coordinator and trainer were incredibly supportive, staying in touch and assisting with any inquiries I had.

After completing the training, I began fieldwork, but we faced a significant challenge: the invasion of Jabalia occurred the same week we were set to start. The coordinator offered to postpone the work until the situation felt safer, but after a brief delay of one week, we proceeded. Despite the difficult circumstances, including targeting of schools and shelters, I was amazed by the response from the participants. Their engagement and interest in the topics of protection and preparedness exceeded my expectations. I had anticipated hesitation, given their new displacement and harsh living conditions, but instead, they interacted enthusiastically, shared their stories, and even discussed their mistakes so others could learn.

The participants’ passion and interest in the subject led them to request targeting teenage males, as this group is often out of the house and more at risk. The information on protection from unexploded ordnance and recognizing danger signs was new to them, and they appreciated the distribution of explanatory flyers, which made it easier for them to share the knowledge with others. At the end of each session, I encouraged them to pass on what they learned to their families, helping reduce the risk of harm through greater awareness and preparedness.

This experience, which I consider an adventure, was one of the most fulfilling for me. I worked on it with passion, energy, and love, knowing the awareness-raising sessions were making a real difference.

Thank you, REFORM and Norwegian People’s Aid, for this incredible experience and your flexibility in work. Ready for the next adventure!
